It is worth noting, that the reason why we recommend the use of supplementation, is because modern diets are becoming increasingly less nutrient dense. For example, the fresh fruit and vegetables that we purchase in the supermarket are usually grown, stored and transported in such a way that the vitamin and mineral content is significantly reduced to that of when it was picked. If you compare the modern diet to that of Palaeolithic times – man used to eat thousands of calories a day, gleaned from organic fresh vegetables and berries, and fresh fish and meat. They would spend their days hunting and gathering their food, and as a result they would be constantly burning energy. The human body was designed to live like this – eating thousands of calories a day to meet all of their nutritional requirements, whilst burning energy by keeping active. However, the modern lifestyle is typically sedentary and deficient in many nutrients as we are generally not getting enough. It is unrealistic to aim to eat as much as cavemen, as we are never going to be as consistently active, but this example does illustrate how we miss out on so many nutrients that the human body is designed to have, and as a result, deficiencies may occur. This is why we advocate the use of supplementation – concentrated forms of micro-nutrients that will help your body to meet its nutritional needs.
